2021 was the first full year of operation at BER Airport. However, due to the corona pandemic, flights fell by more than 60% compared to 2019, totalling just 106,000 take-offs and landings. Nevertheless, all stationary and mobile measuring points at FBB remained in operation around the clock. A wealth of interesting data was gathered from these and presented in the 2021 Aircraft Noise Report. Among other things, the report covers the use of flight routes, night traffic, sources of noise, noise measurements and noise protection, as well as the use of new technologies by airlines and their fleets. The report underscored the fact that, for example, the trend in aviation is for increasingly modern and quieter aircraft. When taken in combination with quieter approach and departure procedures, this constitutes an elevation in active noise protection for BER residents. Other interesting facets include 2021’s special features such as the monthly switch between north and south runways and the temporary use of an alternative route.
All data is clearly presented in graphics, explained in plain English and extensively illustrated.
