At the invitation of the Head of Regional Affairs, Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH (FBB) welcomed representatives from local authorities in the airport region for a joint exchange at BER on Tuesday, 11 July 2023. The management of BADC Berlin-Brandenburg Area Development Company GmbH also took part in the event in addition to the mayors of the surrounding municipalities, administrators from the municipality of Schönefeld and representatives from the districts of Dahme-Spreewald and Teltow-Fläming.
FBB invited participants to take a carriage ride through the Zülow lowlands after the presentations to get a first-hand impression of the various compensation measures. In the landscape zone around nine kilometres south of BER, interventions in nature and the landscape caused by the construction of BER are being compensated for over an area of approximately 1,200 hectares. The Zülow lowlands is the largest single project among FBB’s compensation and replacement measures. Since 2013, numerous measures have been implemented there that aim to ecologically enhance the habit, which is heavily characterised by agricultural.
Before the participants set off on their journey home, there was another opportunity for exchange at a final lunch together. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all those involved for their active participation.
“Many thanks to FBB for this very successful and informative event. The carriage ride was well organised and the setting of the entire event was very appropriate.”
Christian Hentschel, Mayor of Schönefeld
