On the southern runway of BER Airport, the German Air Traffic Control (DFS) has announced survey flights for the night of January 24 to 25. A relatively quiet twin-engine propeller aircraft of the type Beechcraft Super King Air 350 will be used for this purpose. The flights will take off and land in a westerly direction, with certain areas being overflown repeatedly at low altitudes. Overflights of populated areas will be avoided as far as the predefined flight profiles allow.
During these survey flights, the Instrument Landing System (ILS) of the runway will be checked for accuracy and flawless functionality. The ILS supports pilots in daily flight operations by providing navigation assistance during approach. This is primarily achieved through ground-based signal transmitters, which send information about the approach course and glide path to the aircraft's cockpit during landing.
