In 2024, the airport company supported around 250 initiatives and projects in the vicinity of BER airport.

Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH (FBB) has been committed to sustainable partnerships and a positive contribution to the development of the airport region for many years. As part of its efforts to support the surrounding area, FBB is engaging in an open dialogue with neighbours and regional politicians and is actively supporting a large number of projects and initiatives in the airport region. These efforts are particularly focused on offers for children and young people involving education, social issues, culture and sports.

The range of projects includes new playground equipment for daycare centers, training equipment for sports clubs, school projects, neighborhood festivals, and music events. In 2024, a grand total of 115 community projects organized by a variety of associations, schools, daycare centers, and other institutions have received support in the form of donations or sponsorships. Some 30 schools and daycare centers and more than 40 sports clubs in the neighborhood have benefited from financial support from the airport company. A combined total of 20 different sports were funded and 24 new partnerships were established. In addition to the monetary support, another 94 projects were supported through donations of goods and promotional materials. The much-loved BER bouncy castle was also provided free of charge for 28 events and festivities in the neighborhood.

Beyond that, the airport company realized its own projects as part of its community engagement, such as two corporate volunteering assignments in Blankenfelde-Mahlow and Eichwalde. Thanks to the active support of FBB employees, 2,400 trees were planted, several flowerbeds were built and a hedge was created. For the beginning of the new school year, 3,240 children's safety vests were distributed to 38 schools; and at Christmas, more than 2,000 biscuits were baked and donated. The airport company's wide-ranging commitment is aimed at ensuring that as many local residents as possible benefit from the company's support and activities. This way, in 2024, a total of 250 individual projects were supported and realised.

As part of its community relations efforts, the airport company also promotes a constructive dialogue with local residents and regional politicians. Through its involvement in the Airport Berlin Brandenburg Dialogue Forum, FBB continuously supports inter-municipal cooperation with the neighbouring communities of BER. Frequent information offers such as the regional magazine “Nachbarn – Wir in der Flughafenregion” and exchange formats such as “Nachbarn im Dialog” are now established components of the dialogue with residents. As part of the “Nachbarn im Dialog” initiative, in the past year the airport company visited four municipalities in the surrounding area to talk to local residents.

Christian Franzke, Head of Community Relations at Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH: “Looking back at the past year, we can see how much we can achieve by working together. I would like to thank our partners most sincerely. Cooperation with local stakeholders in the interest of the people in our neighborhood will remain a key component of our work in the region.”
