Jörg Simon will be the new Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH with effect from July 1, 2021. Simon (59), CEO of Berliner Wasserbetriebe for more than 20 years, was unanimously elected in today's Supervisory Board meeting. The industrial and mechanical engineer was appointed to the Supervisory Board for the State of Berlin at the shareholders' meeting last April.
Jörg Simon succeeds Rainer Bretschneider, who, as announced, is leaving the supervisory body at his own request. Bretschneider (72) has been Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH since March 2017 and is leaving at the end of the month. Holger Rößler, the Berlin district secretary of ver.di – the united services union, will remain as Deputy Chairman.
Rainer Bretschneider, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH: “In Jörg Simon, the airport company's Supervisory Board has elected a chairman who has led Berliner Wasserbetriebe successfully and for a long time. I am happy for the company that it will benefit from his extensive experience to the FBB.”
Jörg Simon, Chairman of the Management Board of Berliner Wasserbetriebe and, from July 1, 2021, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of BER: “I'm looking forward to the new challenges ahead. BER has already demonstrated that it has the potential to become a successful international airport. This is an immense responsibility, which I’m happy to share with the other members of the Supervisory Board, the shareholders, the management and the employees of the airport company.”
