Around two million passengers used BER Airport again in July
Annual traffic from 2021 achieved

The number of passengers at Berlin Brandenburg Willy Brandt Airport has remained stable: for the third time in a row, almost two million passengers took off or landed at BER within one month. 1.97 million people used the airport in July, around the same number as in the previous months of May and June. 1.25 million people travelled via BER in July 2021 compared to 3.4 million passengers at the then Tegel and Schönefeld Airports in July of the pre-pandemic year 2019 – about 40 percent more than in July 2022.

A total of more than ten million passengers used BER Airport in the first seven months of this year. This means that between January to July 2022, the passenger volume for the entire year 2021 (9.9 million passengers) has already been exceeded.

Last month, almost 15,200 aircraft took off and landed in the capital region – 300 fewer than in June 2022. There were 11,600 take-offs and landings recorded in July 2021 compared to 25,700 in the pre-pandemic year 2019. Aircraft occupancy stood at 86 percent last month.

A total of around 2,300 tonnes of air cargo were handled in July 2022, the same amount as in the same month of the previous year 2021. It was 3,200 tonnes in July 2019.

Aletta von Massenbach, CEO of Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH: “Around 1.65 million people travelled via Berlin Brandenburg Airport in the first three-and-a-half weeks of the holidays alone. The number of passengers was distributed relatively evenly, with an average of 66,000 passengers taking off and landing at BER daily. This posed great challenges for all airport company employees and its partners every day. Thanks to our joint efforts, processes been orderly and largely stable so far. I would like to thank everyone involved for their responsible team work.”

The traffic report for July 2022 containing the final figures will be available online at the end of the month:
