Axel Schmidt takes over as Head of Corporate Communications at BER Airport

Axel Schmidt took over as Head of Corporate Communications at Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH on 1 June. His new role includes responsibility for the further development of location marketing, PR, event and content management, employer branding, social media, internal communication as well as partner and sustainability communication.

He has 18 years of experience under his belt from management positions in communications departments at various companies and agencies. From 2019 to 2022, he was head of PR and Social Media at ImmoScout24 and was responsible for developing regular market analyses and online formats such as the “Wohnen Weiter Denken” debate platform. From there, he moved to the MDAX-listed parent company Scout24, where he has been head of external and internal corporate and financial communications since the beginning of 2023.

In 2017 and 2018, Axel Schmidt was account director at the Berlin-based agency Zucker.Kommunikation, where he was responsible for Amazon Germany and E.ON’s digital products. At the mc Group agency, he was responsible for accounts such as Turkish Airways, Croation National Tourist Board and German Federal Ministry of Health’s digital presence.

He started his professional career in 2006 at the listed company Frogster Interactive AG, where he built up and coordinated a global PR team. From 2012, he coordinated event and content management, direct marketing/CRM, employer branding and corporate social responsibility at Gameforge and GameDuell.

Axel Schmidt studied political science, modern history and literature in Bonn and Hamburg with a degree in media studies and completed a training programme in methodical public relations work at the German Institute for Public Relations (DIPR).

Now that commissioning is complete, I would like to help give it the reputation and attractiveness it deserves for its operational capacity and its position as a link to the whole world. I am very much looking forward to working with the BER teams and partners,” said Axel Schmidt on beginning his new role.
