At its meeting on 17 October 2025, the Supervisory Board of Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH (FBB) appointed Axel Eschment as the new Chief Human Resources Officer. In addition to overseeing human resources, the new executive will also be responsible for noise protection and environmental matters, as well as regional affairs. Axel Eschment will take up his post in spring 2026, and therefore supplement the FBB management.
Mr Eschment transfers from Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG), where he is currently Head of Business Partner Human Resources. He also acts as Managing Director of the BVG Training Campus and as an authorized signatory (Prokurist) of BVG.
Axel Eschment began his professional career at Landesbank Berlin before moving to Sparkasse KölnBonn in 2011, where he held various responsibilities in corporate consulting, strategy and processes, and HR controlling. Born in Berlin, he holds a degree in Business Administration from Berufsakademie Berlin and is a Certified Finance Expert from St. Gallen Business School.
“We are pleased to have gained an experienced executive in Axel Eschment for the further development of the airport company’s human resources department and employer brand. In addition to his expertise in organizational development and personnel controlling, he is a proven expert in financial accounting and a specialist in the needs of a public and international transport company,” says Jörg Simon, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH, on the appointment.
“Due to demographic change, the German labour market will lose 400,000 workers every year until 2035. The shortage of skilled workers and labour poses considerable challenges for all companies. With Axel Eschment, we will see this development as an opportunity to make FBB even more efficient and future-proof,” adds Aletta von Massenbach, Chief Executive Officer.
Axel Eschment: “I am very grateful for the trust the Supervisory Board has placed in me. My top priority is to further strengthen FBB as an attractive and future-proof employer. We aim to attract young people to the wide range of career opportunities at the airport by offering high-quality training programs, while also supporting existing employees through technological changes and enhancing their digital skills. I look forward to working closely with the management team, my future colleagues, and the works council.”
