A bright sign for greater safety

Airport company donates more than 3,000 high-visibility vests for the start of the school year

In Berlin and Brandenburg, the summer holidays are over and school has started again. For thousands of children in the airport region, this means the start of their first school year. New schoolchildren are particularly at risk in traffic and on their way to school – especially in the coming darker months. To help improve safety for the youngest pupils, the airport company once again distributed children's high-visibility vests to primary schools in the airport region.

As part of the annual back-to-school campaign, a total of 3,216 high-visibility vests were distributed this year to 40 primary schools in Berlin and Brandenburg in the vicinity of BER. One of these schools is the Groß Machnow Primary School, where Christian Franzke, the airport company's Regional Affairs Officer, personally presented the bright yellow vests to head teacher Ramona Schuster and the children in the first year classes today. The high-visibility vests are designed to ensure that children are more visible in the dark and in bad weather. The airport company wishes all schoolchildren a good start, a great school year and a safe journey to school.

‘Many thanks to the airport company for donating the high-visibility vests. They help to make our youngest pupils more visible in traffic. This is a valuable contribution to greater safety on the way to school – especially as our school is located directly on the B96 federal highway.’

- Ramona Schuster, headmistress of Groß Machnow Primary School
