For a safe start to the school year

The new school year has begun in Berlin and Brandenburg. For many children in the airport region, this marks the start of their school career. Children starting school are particularly at risk on their way to school and in traffic – especially during the autumn and winter months when days are shorter and visibility is poor. To help ensure the children’s safety, Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH has once again donated high-visibility vests to primary schools in the airport region.

Thirty-four primary schools around BER took part in this year’s back-to-school campaign, including 18 schools in Berlin and 16 in Brandenburg. In total, the airport operator provided 2,859 high-visibility vests for the new Year 1 pupils. Among the participating schools is the Fontane Primary School in Niederlehme. There, Axel Eschment, Managing Director of Human Resources, and Christian Franzke, the airport company’s regional liaison officer, personally handed over the bright yellow high-visibility vests to Headteacher Monika Büttner and the children in the new Year 1 classes during the first week of term. The high-visibility vests are intended to help ensure that the children are more easily spotted in the dark, in the rain or in poor visibility. The airport company wishes all pupils a successful start to the school year, much enjoyment in their learning and a safe journey every time.

“The youngest children, in particular, first have to get used to their new school routine. So it’s good to know that the high-visibility vests make them more visible on their way to school. We’re very grateful for the support and would like to thank BER for this brilliant initiative.”
