Travellers at Berlin Brandenburg Airport can look forward to a significantly expanded shopping offer in the duty-free and travel-value area. Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH and travel retail specialist Gebr. Heinemann SE & Co. KG have extended their long-standing partnership, laying the foundation for a comprehensive expansion of the corresponding areas in the security zone of Terminal 1.
Starting this autumn, the Market Place behind the security checkpoint in Terminal 1 will undergo further development. As part of this, the retail space will be expanded to around 3,800 square metres. In addition to a significantly expanded range of shops, a dining area with a direct view of the apron will be integrated to complement the shopping experience. Construction will take place in several phases and is expected to be completed by the end of 2028, with passenger and retail operations continuing without restriction throughout.
"Together with Gebr. Heinemann, we are investing in the future and continuing to develop the Market Place as the heart of our terminal. With this redesign, we are creating more space to linger, expanding the offering for passengers, and opening the area up more towards the apron," says Aletta von Massenbach, CEO of Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH.
