From Chemnitz to the world via BER
Direct IC connection  to Berlin Brandenburg AIrport

From June, the Saxon city of Chemnitz will be directly connected to BER Airport by rail: From Sunday, 12 June, Deutsche Bahn will extend its Intercity connection from Rostock-Warnemünde to Dresden to Chemnitz, twice daily in each direction. This will give the “European Capital of Culture 2025” a connection to the long-distance rail network – and thus a direct IC connection to Berlin Brandenburg Willy Brandt International Airport. The journey from Chemnitz to BER Airport takes two and a half hours. From BER, guests currently have the opportunity to fly with 60 airlines to 146 destinations in 49 countries. For Saxony’s third-largest city with around 250,000 inhabitants, the connection with the travel focus BER is the first stop of a long-distance train in around 16 years.

Trains depart daily from Chemnitz at 6:26 am and 8:26 am.  They reach Berlin Brandenburg Airport without changing trains at 8:57 am and 10:57 am. In the opposite direction, the white Intercity trains depart from the Capital Airport at 16:59 and 18:59. Arrival in Chemnitz is at 19:31 or 21:31.

The trains stop at the BER Terminal 1-2 station, which is located under the terminal building. From there, passengers can reach the Terminal 1 check-in directly by lift, escalator or stairs in just a few minutes. Terminal 2 is also within walking distance of the station, at a distance of 400 metres.

Rail connection Terminal 1-2

Directly under Terminal 1 is the six-track railway station “Airport BER Terminal 1-2” with three platforms. Since the start of operations, regional rail trains have been running approx. every 15 minutes between Berlin Central Station and BER. The journey takes about half an hour. After the opening of the Dresden line in 2025, travellers will only need 20 minutes. A total of 14 trains stop at the station every hour during rush hour, including the S-Bahn every ten minutes. The IC on the Dresden-Rostock route arrives at BER every two hours.
