This past August, with the summer holidays in Berlin and Brandenburg, was the month with the highest number of travellers so far this year. A total of 2.39 million passengers travelled via BER in August. This corresponds to an increase of 7.7 per cent compared to August 2023 with around 2.22 million passengers. In August of the pre-coronavirus year 2019, the passenger volume at the two Airports Tegel and Schönefeld was around 3.18 million passengers.
A total of 16.58 million passengers were welcomed at BER this year from January to August, which corresponds to an increase of 11.1 per cent compared to the same period of the previous year (14.92 million). The busiest day was 30 August, the last Friday of the summer holidays, with 85,778 passengers.
16,520 aircraft took off and landed at BER last month. That is around 2.8 per cent more than in August 2023. In August 2019, around 25,000 aircraft movements were registered at Tegel and Schönefeld. A total of 4,067 tonnes of air freight were loaded at BER in August 2024. This corresponds to an increase of 33.8 per cent compared to August 2023. 31.5 per cent more freight was loaded compared to August in the pre-coronavirus year 2019 (3,092 tonnes).
