Into the future with the latest technology
Modernised training workshop inaugurated at BER

Learning in a practical and future-oriented environment: Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH officially inaugurated its modernised training workshop at BER Airport. More than 40 apprentices are currently acquiring practical skills in five technical professions at BER. These include training as industrial mechanics; mechatronics technicians; plant mechanics for sanitary, heating and air-conditioning technology; electronics technicians for energy and building technology and electronics technicians for information and systems technology.

Michael Halberstadt, Chief Human Resources Officer at Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH: “The airport company offers young people sound and practical training. By way of the new workshop, BER is strengthening its role as a training organisation. At the same time, as an airport company we make sure that urgently needed specialists are comprehensively qualified.”

The workshop is located in the aviation security area in the Service Area South and has a total area of 645 square metres. Young people receive training there on state-of-the-art technical equipment, including CNC machines (computer numerical control machines), a water jet cutting system, a laser engraving machine, 3D printers and threading arms. An ultra-modern welding workshop with a central welding gas supply and extraction equipment has been put in place in an area spanning 136 square metres so that apprentices can learn the various welding processes safely.

The workshop is energy-efficient and ergonomically designed in line with the latest technological developments. It has been equipped with interactive training tools.
