Warm jackets, new sound equipment, and play equipment
Airport company is fulfilling Christmas wishes in the surrounding communities

This Christmas, under the motto ‘Doing good together’, Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH (FBB) donated a total of €10,000 to charitable organisations and associations in the BER neighbourhood. The donations will enable initiatives in the surrounding area to realise their dream projects, whether that's installing new football walls in the school playground, providing warm jackets for the youth fire brigade or purchasing modern sound equipment for the music school. On 8 December, airport CEO Aletta von Massenbach and FBB representative for the surrounding area Christian Franzke presented the symbolic cheques.

"With our Christmas donation, we are supporting the valuable work of several charitable organisations in the BER region. At the same time, we would like to thank the many people who volunteer in the region,” says Aletta von Massenbach, CEO of Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH. “The donations are part of our diverse commitment to the airport region. It is particularly important to us to act sustainably and to support projects that noticeably enrich the lives of people in our neighbourhood."

Great response to call for applications

In October, the airport company called on charitable associations and organisations to apply for the donation initiative with their Christmas wishes. By the closing date on 15 November, more than 120 diverse applications had been received, demonstrating the wide range of activities in the region. A little luck was also required: ten organisations were selected by lottery to receive €1,000 each from FBB.

These initiatives were delighted to receive a donation:
  • The Fortbildungsinstitut für die pädagogische Praxis (FiPP) e. V. (Training Institute for Educational Practice) is planning to finance new equipment for the ‘Waslala’ adventure playground in Berlin-Altglienicke.
  • The Förderverein der Musikbetonten Gesamtschule Paul Dessau e. V. (Friends of the Paul Dessau Music School Association) wants to purchase new lighting and sound equipment for music students.
  • The Förderverein der Wilhelm-Busch-Grundschule e. V. (Friends of the Wilhelm Busch Primary School Association) will use the donation to purchase two mobile football walls for the school playground.
  • The Kita „Robin Hood“ (Robin Hood daycare centre) in Waltersdorf is fulfilling its wish for new Snoezelen equipment and outdoor play equipment.
  • The Löschzug Mittenwalde-Mark e. V. (Mittenwalde-Mark fire brigade) can use the donation to purchase new all-weather jackets for the children's and youth fire brigade.
  • The Ruderclub Rapid Berlin e. V. now has sufficient financial resources to purchase matching caps and water bottles for all club members.
  • The SV Frankonia Wernsdorf 1919 e. V. plans to provide vouchers to financially support the 2026 summer football camp.
  • SV Lokomotive Rangsdorf e. V. plans to purchase warm-up shirts and new balls for its youth handball team.
  • SV Waßmannsdorf 1956 e. V. is organising a joint Christmas party for its youth teams.
  • VfL Lichtenrade 1894 e. V. is fulfilling its gymnasts' wish for a new vaulting table.

FBB is committed to the surrounding area

As part of its work in the surrounding area, the airport company has been actively supporting clubs, schools, daycare centres, social projects and cultural events in the vicinity of Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) for many years – including through donations and sponsorship. A particular focus is on promoting projects for children and young people in the areas of education, social affairs, culture and sport. With its wide-ranging commitment, the airport company aims to reach as many people in the region as possible. In 2024 alone, around 250 individual projects were supported and implemented in this way.
