In today's closed meeting, the Supervisory Board of Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH appointed CFO Aletta von Massenbach as Chief Executive Officer of FBB with effect from October 1, 2021. She succeeds Engelbert Lütke Daldrup, who departs the company at the end of September.
The decision of the Supervisory Board followed a comprehensive selection process, which included updated personnel market research by an external personnel service provider, as well as an assessment process by another personnel consultant. Both neutral external parties issued a positive vote. In addition, the Supervisory Board was convinced that, in her brief time as CFO, Aletta von Massenbach was able to demonstrate exemplary flair in the key areas of finance and can be trusted to aggressively tackle the pending issues of the airport company’s strategic realignment and to improve BER’s positioning within the German and European aviation market.
Rainer Bretschneider, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH: “The Supervisory Board did not take this decision lightly. The correct choice was made by actively selecting the best. With her broad horizon of experience in the airport industry, Aletta von Massenbach combines both stability and future orientation at the same time. She is the right choice to lead BER out of the current crisis and into the future.”
Engelbert Lütke Daldrup, CEO of Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH: “The decision of the Supervisory Board to appoint my management colleague Aletta von Massenbach as the future CEO is great for our company and comes at just the right time. Her many years of airport experience and her financial acumen offer an excellent foundation to properly position FBB and successfully lead BER into the future. I am also delighted that the first female CEO of a major German airport will finally be taking up this position in the capital region and will set the tone for the coming years.”
Aletta von Massenbach, CFO of Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH: “I would like to thank the Supervisory Board for placing its confidence in me and I am very much looking forward to my new role. Leading BER out of the financial crisis and making it a successful airport for Berlin and Brandenburg is a very special challenge, but also a great opportunity. I want to make my contribution, together with the entire management, the FBB workforce, the Supervisory Board and the shareholders, toward ensuring BER becomes more sustainable, not just economically, but also digitally and ecologically.”
