Joint effort for the region: Corporate volunteering has been an established part of Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH's regional engagement for many years. As part of this initiative, BER employees voluntarily support a non-profit project in the airport's neighbourhood for one day. On 4 June 2026, the initiative took place once again: around 20 dedicated colleagues swapped their usual airport workplaces for a day of practical work outdoors.
The day's programme included a range of tasks on the grounds of Natursportpark Blankenfelde, especially around the wetland habitat there. With team spirit and great commitment, the volunteers helped improve the access route with new planting and the construction of a deadwood hedge. To enhance the pond area, they also placed stones along the bank and built an observation platform as well as a new stream system.
Natursportpark Blankenfelde is a community project supported, among others, by Landschaftspflegeverein (LPV) Mittelbrandenburg e.V. The association is a key regional partner for nature and environmental projects in the area around BER. On the site, it also runs Waldhaus Blankenfelde, an established environmental education centre for children and young people.
Markus Mohn, Landschaftspflegeverein Mittelbrandenburg e. V.:
'LPV Mittelbrandenburg and BER have enjoyed a partnership for many years. I am pleased that we were able to build on this during today's volunteering activity as well. Together, we achieved a great deal today to further enhance our site, which ultimately benefits all visitors to Natursportpark. Many thanks to all the hard-working BER employees who pitched in so actively and enthusiastically today.'
