Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) makes an important contribution to the economic development of the surrounding region. At the same time, airport operations generate emissions and present other challenges for the surrounding area. This tension gives rise to legitimate needs and expectations on the part of the people in the surrounding communities regarding the airport.
As an airport and as a company, we are aware of this special significance for the region. That is why we are committed to the future-oriented development of the airport region in close cooperation with our neighbors. The airport company’s Regional Affairs department serves as a recognized, established connection between the airport and the surrounding communities.
At the heart of our community engagement are open dialogue with the neighborhood and constructive cooperation with regional politicians and municipalities. At the same time, we provide targeted support to schools, daycare centers, clubs and social projects in the airport’s vicinity – for example, through donations and sponsorships. We aim for as many people as possible in the airport region to benefit from this wide-ranging community engagement.

In our work, we focus primarily on the airport region, that is, the area surrounding BER Airport. This refers in particular to the surrounding municipalities in Brandenburg and neighborhoods in southern Berlin. Our focus here is on the area defined in the Joint Structural Concept (GSK) for the Berlin-Brandenburg Airport Region.
The area extends roughly from Ludwigsfelde in the west to Gosen-Neu Zittau in the east, and from Berlin-Schöneweide in the north to Mittenwalde in the south. It encompasses several cities and municipalities in the Brandenburg districts of Dahme-Spreewald, Teltow-Fläming, and Oder-Spree, as well as several neighborhoods in the Berlin districts of Treptow-Köpenick, Neukölln, and Tempelhof-Schöneberg.
