For the community

Our social projects in the region

We attach great importance to realising projects together that have a long-term and sustainable impact. In the past, we have been able to continually implement new projects that have become established and have been widely publicised and met with great interest. We are open to exciting and creative new ideas at all times and look forward to realising them.

Corporate Volunteering

Charities and organisations often reach their limits when implementing social projects – despite the tremendous dedication of their volunteers. For this reason, we want to lend a hand wherever extra help is needed. As part of our company-wide corporate volunteering programme, our employees spend a day working together to support a charitable project in the airport region. In doing so, they not only take on social responsibility for the local community but also broaden their experiences outside the workplace.

Since 2014, we have carried out various projects at several organisations. The requests are diverse and have so far ranged from paving work in school gardens to renovating nurseries or refugee accommodation, right through to helping redesign a youth club. Please feel free to contact us if you would like us to support you in implementing a project.

High-visibility children's vests at the start of the school year

Since 2020, the airport operator has been distributing free high-visibility vests to primary schools in the area surrounding BER at the start of the school year, with the aim of improving road safety for schoolchildren, particularly those starting school. This gives interested schools the opportunity each year to provide their new Year 1 classes with high-visibility vests from the airport operator. Thanks to the positive response in recent years, more and more schools are becoming aware of the initiative. In 2024, a total of 3,240 high-visibility vests were distributed to 38 primary schools in Berlin and Brandenburg in the vicinity of BER.

Nationwide reading aloud day

National Reading Aloud Day is a joint initiative of DIE ZEIT, Stiftung Lesen and the Deutsche Bahn Foundation, and was launched 20 years ago. The event takes place annually on the third Friday in November and is Germany’s largest reading aloud festival, serving as a public initiative to inspire children and adults alike about the importance of reading aloud every year. We have been taking part in National Reading Aloud Day regularly since 2012, for example through various reading-aloud activities in schools and nurseries in the airport region.

In addition to Reading Aloud Day, we also get involved in various activities on other national and international days of action, such as ‘Neighbours’ Day’ or ‘World Cleanup Day’.

A special effort during the Christmas season

Especially during the most festive time of the year, we are keen to bring a little joy to our neighbours, young and old alike. So every year, we organise a Christmas campaign to surprise people in our neighbourhood – for example, with small gifts, donations of goods or homemade biscuits.
