Environmental policy

We want to shape the development of air traffic at Berlin Brandenburg Airport in a responsible manner with regard to the protection of the environment and climate, our residents and our employees. In this context, FBB is aware of its impact on the environment. It has therefore anchored the improvement of FBB's environmental balance sheet in its corporate strategy. This is a key prerequisite for remaining a successful airport location in the long term and for being ecologically sustainable.

FBB is implementing an environmental management system with the aim of continuously reducing the negative effects of its operations on the environment and climate.

Environmental and climate protection as corporate goals

The management and executives continuously regard commitment to environmental and climate protection and resource efficiency as a strategic management task. They align FBB's operationally relevant processes to fulfil the obligations of the environmental management system. Environmental protection is a cross-departmental task to which every employee contributes in their respective area of activity and responsibility. As part of our environmental management system in accordance with ISO 14001, we set ourselves specific environmental targets.

FBB is committed to making the airport operations for which it is responsible CO2-neutral by 2045 at the latest, in line with the industry targets of the German Airports Association (ADV).

FBB undertakes to comply with all environmental laws, regulations and other official requirements that apply to it. Wherever reasonable and possible, we aim to exceed the applicable environmental legislation and official requirements.

Continuous improvement of our environmental performance

Through the use of modern technology, optimised operational management and the promotion of environmentally conscious user behaviour, we continuously strive to improve our environmental performance.

We continuously monitor, evaluate and document the negative environmental impacts of our business activities in environmental audits and internal reviews, and take further steps in good time if the achievement of our environmental goals is at risk.

Promoting environmental awareness and involving our business partners

We train and qualify all employees so that everyone can contribute to protecting the climate and the environment at their workplace. We involve airlines, service providers and other business partners in environmental and climate protection issues.

Information and dialogue

We seek open and objective dialogue with the various stakeholders at the airport and practise the greatest possible transparency. We publish the results of our noise and air quality measurements on an ongoing basis. In addition, we regularly inform the public about further environmental impacts and our efforts in the field of environmental and climate protection. This includes, in particular, regular information events for interested residents in our neighbouring communities.
