Communication and Exchange

Engaging with our neighborhood

As a company with strong regional roots, we maintain regular contact with the neighboring communities surrounding BER. The airport company’s Head of Regional Affairs serves as the primary point of contact for our diverse regional stakeholders, such as local politicians and government officials. The Dialogue Forum Airport Berlin Brandenburg also plays a central role in facilitating communication and inter-municipal cooperation within the airport region.

Furthermore, we are committed to providing residents of the BER region with relevant information and facilitating direct dialogue with them. Neighborhood communication initiatives – such as the airport’s regional magazine and neighborhood newsletter – as well as engagement formats like “Neighbors in Dialogue” are integral components of our dialogue with citizens.

The Dialogue Forum Airport Berlin Brandenburg
provides a platform for communication and cooperation between the cities and municipalities, districts and counties surrounding BER Airport. The dialogue forum is made up of twelve municipalities and cities in the airport region, three southern Berlin districts, three administrative districts of Brandenburg, the states of Berlin and Brandenburg as well as Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH and Berlin-Brandenburg Area Development Company GmbH.

The municipal working group aims to promote fair dialogue, build trust, agree development goals and facilitate a sustainable balance of interests between the partners involved. We aim to proactively support the opportunities and challenges of the airport region through joint action.

Furthermore, the airport company is involved in the Kommunales Nachbarschaftsforum Berlin-Brandenburg (KNF) e.V. (Berlin-Brandenburg Municipal Neighborhood Forum) to maintain an ongoing dialogue with neighboring communities.

BER is at the heart of the region, closely intertwined with the people who live and work in the area surrounding the airport. Many residents therefore have a special and legitimate interest in what is happening at the airport and in the region.

That is why we offer both print and digital information resources specifically tailored to our neighbors. Through our local magazine "Nachbarn - Wir in der Flughafenregion" and our neighborhood newsletter, we keep interested residents and partners informed about current topics related to BER and our region.

Out and About in the Neighborhood

Information and discussion on the issues that matter to people living near the airport: that’s what the “Neighbors in Dialogue” initiative is all about. Several times a year, we visit various communities around BER to engage in on-site discussions with city councils, municipal representatives, and residents. This gives local residents the opportunity to actively participate in the dialogue. The discussions are tailored to the specific local needs. Key topics include, for example, aircraft noise, flight paths and noise compensation, the noise protection program, and our regional engagement.

“Neighbors in Dialogue” was initiated in 2021 as an information and exchange format for the surrounding communities and neighboring Berlin districts. Since then, we have been on site in almost all municipalities in the airport region to give residents the opportunity to play an active part in the dialogue.

Participating in festivals and events in the BER region also provides a great opportunity for direct dialogue with local residents. That’s why the Neighborhood Team sets up an information booth and offers hands-on activities for people of all ages at various neighborhood and community festivals. So if we happen to be in your neighborhood, please feel free to come talk to us.
