1,55 million people travelled via BER

Unusual winter weather in Europe led to many flight cancellations

Last January, 1.55 million people travelled through Berlin Brandenburg Airport. That was 0.8 percent less than in the same month last year, according to the preliminary figures in the traffic report. The number of flight movements was also lower than in January 2025: A total of 12,345 aircraft took off and landed at BER last month, 535 fewer than in the same month last year.

Exceptional weather conditions across European air traffic affected BER's statistics in January, which is already a low-traffic month. Heavy snowfall and ice across much of Europe led to an unusually high number of cancellations. In total, airlines canceled 333 flights to and from BER last month, affecting a total of 31,000 passengers. Without the cancellations, passenger numbers would have been slightly higher than in the same month last year.

A total of 3,751 tons of cargo were handled last January, around 147 tons more than in January 2025.
