BER handled 2.1 million passengers in April

Consequences of war in Iran and strikes dampen traffic figures

The consequences of the war in the Middle East and strikes at Lufthansa impacted traffic figures at Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) in April. Overall, 2.1 million passengers travelled through BER last month – 91,000 fewer, or 4.1 percent less, than in April 2025, according to preliminary figures from the traffic report. About 15,800 flights took off and landed at the airport, 2.7 percent fewer than in the same month last year.

Compared to the same month last year, approximately 84,000 fewer passengers travelled to and from destinations in the Middle East in April 2026. Additionally, flights for approximately 40,000 passengers were cancelled during the Lufthansa strikes.

As is the case every year, the Easter holidays marked the start of the summer season. Approximately 1.3 million travellers used BER between 27 March and 12 April. The busiest day of the month was Easter Monday, 6 April 2026, with more than 83,500 passengers.

Overall, approximately 3,800 tonnes of cargo were handled at BER in April 2026, 3.1 percent less than in April 2025.
