Every year in November, the nationwide reading aloud day takes place, in which the airport company regularly participates. As in the previous year, nursery children from the neighbourhood were once again invited to BER for a reading aloud event. On 18 November 2025, the BER community outreach team welcomed around 20 children from the Schwalbennest Schönefeld nursery and the Evangelische Invitas Kita Glasow-Mahlow nursery to the airport.
In addition to an interactive reading session of the story of the ‘Supadupa Pig’, the children were given a tour of Terminal 1 and the BER visitor terrace. The airport company was once again supported by the Eichwalder Verein Kind & Kegel e.V., with which it has a long-standing partnership.
National Reading Day is a joint initiative of DIE ZEIT, Stiftung Lesen and Deutsche Bahn Stiftung and was launched more than 20 years ago. The campaign day takes place annually on the third Friday in November and is Germany's largest reading festival and a public sign to inspire children and adults alike about the importance of reading aloud every year. Since 2012, Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH has regularly participated in National Reading Day, for example through various reading activities in schools and daycare centres in the airport region.
