Review of Regional Affairs in 2025

Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH (FBB) has been committed to sustainable partnerships and making a positive contribution to the development of the region around Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) for many years. Its work in the surrounding area focuses on open dialogue with the neighbourhood and constructive cooperation with regional politicians and local authorities. At the same time, the airport company supports numerous projects and initiatives in the airport environment – especially for children and young people in the areas of education, social affairs, culture and sport.

In 2025, FBB supported a total of 115 projects run by non-profit organisations through financial contributions in the form of donations or sponsorships. These included school projects, equipment for daycare centres, family and community festivals, and youth development work in clubs. More than 45 sports clubs received funding, supporting 21 different sports. In addition, around 30 schools and daycare centres as well as 16 cultural events benefited from financial support from the airport company. A further 82 projects were supported with donations of materials and advertising materials.

In addition to these support measures, FBB also implemented its own projects as part of its regional commitment. These included two corporate volunteering assignments: in May at a daycare centre in Schulzendorf and in October in the village centre of Selchow. More than 30 FBB employees volunteered to take part in the assignments. Together, they installed a sun sail and an insect hotel, built raised beds and nesting boxes, planted flowers and shrubs, and maintained green spaces, among other things.

At the start of the school year, the airport company also distributed more than 3,300 children's safety vests to 41 primary schools in the region. The vests are intended to offer school beginners in particular greater safety in road traffic. Further campaigns in aid of institutions and organisations in the vicinity of BER followed in November and December on the occasion of the National Reading Day and the Christmas season.

In total, more than 200 individual projects were supported and implemented in 2025 thanks to the airport company's broad-based commitment, ensuring that as many people as possible in the airport region benefit from them.

Another focus of the airport's community outreach work is on maintaining an ongoing dialogue with local residents and regional politicians. In the Airport Berlin Brandenburg Dialogue Forum, FBB is committed to inter-municipal cooperation with neighbouring communities. Information offerings such as the regional magazine ‘Nachbarn – Wir in der Flughafenregion’ and the email newsletter ‘Nachbarn News,’ as well as exchange formats such as ‘Nachbarn im Dialog,’ are integral parts of the citizen dialogue. Last year, the airport company visited five surrounding communities as part of ‘Nachbarn im Dialog’ to engage in direct conversation with people on site. In addition, the neighbourhood team participated in numerous neighbourhood and community festivals with information and hands-on activities – especially as part of the 650th anniversary celebrations in many places.

Christian Franzke, Regional Representative for Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH: “A strong airport region is created through cooperation. With our regional work, we take responsibility for the region and specifically support projects that benefit the people in our neighbourhood and strengthen the sustainable development of the surrounding area.”
