Well prepared for the start of the autumn holidays
1.2 million passengers expected at BER

Around 1.2 million passengers are expected at BER during the autumn holidays in Berlin and Brandenburg between 20 October and 5 November 2023. This is around 100,000 more passengers than in the 2022 autumn holidays. The busiest day of travel is expected to be 20 October with around 90,000 passengers. A total of 79 airlines fly to 144 destinations in 50 countries.

Passengers can choose from popular european holiday and city destinations as well as exciting long-haul connections from BER during the autumn holidays. The most sought-after destinations within Europe are Spain, Turkey and Italy. Amsterdam, Paris, Zurich and Vienna top the list of most popular city destinations.

Starting on 30 October 2023, the airline Eurowings will be flying from BER to Dubai, the largest city in the United Arab Emirates on the Persian Gulf. The route will be served non-stop four times a week – every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.

Aletta von Massenbach, Chief Executive Officer of Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH: “The entire BER Airport team has prepared well for the autumn holidays. We ask our passengers to find out everything they need to know before arrival and recommend using our wide range of digital services to make travelling easier. Warm and sunny Mediterranean destinations are especially popular this autumn as are city destinations. I’m also delighted with the addition of Dubai to Eurowings’ flight plan – a destination that promises sunshine all year round.”

By preparing for their departure and using BER’s digital services, passengers can travel in a more relaxed and convenient way. The airport company generally recommends that all passengers arrive at their respective terminal two-and-a-half hours before departure and proceed to security control immediately after checking in. Passengers should check-in independently online or at a self-check-in machine if possible.

BER Runway

Reserving a time slot for access to security control saves waiting time. The service is free of charge and is available from seven days before departure. Passengers who have booked a time slot simply go to the boarding pass control with their boarding pass. This recognises when there is a reservation.

BER Traveller

BER Traveller allows completely hands-free access to certain process locations at the airport without having to show any documents by means of biometric facial recognition. In addition to access to the priority lane at security control, the service now also allows the use of self-check-in machines using facial recognition. The service is now aimed at the Lufthansa Group’s HON Circle Members, Senators and Business Class travellers during the pilot phase.

Self-check-in at the machines

Many airlines allow passengers to check-in independently at the self-service machines, print out their boarding pass or baggage tag themselves and check-in their baggage independently at the designated baggage check-in counters. A total of 99 check-in machines are available in Terminal 1. 25 kiosks are also in operation in Terminal 2.

The evening before

Some airlines offer passengers the option of checking in or dropping off their baggage the evening before for departures the next day. Lufthansa passengers can check-in up to 23 hours before departure. For Eurowings flights, this applies to departures until 12 noon the following day. easyJet offers a bag drop for departures up to 9:30 am the following day.
