Since 2016, the airport’s operating company has organised an annual Noise Protection Day, which was attended by more than 2,000 interested parties. The last Noise Protection Day takes place today, Thursday 15 May, with representatives from construction companies, the FBB Noise Protection Team and experts on the topics of aircraft noise and flight routes.
The deadline for noise protection applications to end
Homeowners in the airport region can only assert their claims for noise protection up until 4 November 2025. On this date, exactly five years have passed since BER Airport went into operation. The documents must be submitted in full by this date, including all attachments – such as an extract from the land register and building permit. The following applies to all claim determinations sent by 2022 at the latest: costs for the implementation of noise protection shall only be reimbursed until the end of 2025.
Since the start of the Noise Protection Programme in 2006, Berlin Brandenburg Airport has received more than 22,700 applications for noise protection, more than 22,000 of which have been processed. Around 5,200 households have implemented noise protection measures, while implementation remains pending in around 8,100 cases. Roughly 7,600 households received compensation because the costs of implementing the noise protection measures amounted to more than 30 per cent of the market value of the building.
In addition to the Noise Protection Days, the airport company regularly provides information on airport-related topics in the neighbouring communities as part of the “Neighbours in dialogue” series of events;
it also holds individual consultations and answers questions on the noise protection hotline.
The Airport Berlin Brandenburg Dialogue Forum – a committee made up of cities, municipalities, districts, state representatives and the airport’s operating company – has also provided a platform for continuous exchange since 2006, especially on the topics of aircraft noise, noise protection and the effects of airport operations on the region.
The legal basis for the Noise Protection Programme of Flughafengesellschaft Berlin Brandenburg is the planning approval decision “Expansion of Schönefeld Airport” of 13 August 2004, the supplementary planning decision of 2009 and various judgements of the Federal Administrative Court. Approximately 26,500 households in the vicinity of BER are entitled to noise protection. The protected area extends over 155 square kilometres – from Ludwigsfelde to Rahnsdorf.
