The summer holidays in Berlin and Brandenburg begin in a week’s time. From Wednesday 23 July to Sunday 7 September, BER Airport is expecting a total of around 3.7 million passengers. That is around 100,000 more passengers than in the 2024 summer holidays.
By the start of the holidays, 20 control lanes in Terminals 1 and 2 will already be equipped with new CT scanners, four more than originally planned. Control area 1 has been equipped with the new technology since May 2025. All eight lanes there were originally scheduled for completion in autumn. Thanks to the excellent cooperation of all partners, four of these lanes will be in place in time for the start of the holiday season. In Terminal 2, all eight lanes are already equipped with CT scanners, while in Terminal 1, control area 5 was put into operation in March of this year. Waiting times there have already been significantly reduced.
On the first holiday weekend, from Wednesday 23 July to Sunday 27 July, BER is expecting around 390,000 passengers. During the entire holiday period, a total of around 24,300 aircraft will take off or land at BER.
Once again this year, holiday destinations on the Mediterranean, such as Turkey, Spain, Italy and France, are particularly popular. Palma de Mallorca remains the most popular holiday destination. During the holidays, a total of up to 70 flights a week take off from Eurowings, easyJet, Ryanair and Sundair to the largest Balearic island. Throughout the summer flight schedule, more than 70 airlines will connect BER directly with 150 destinations in 50 countries.
"I am particularly pleased that we will be able to put four new lanes with CT scanners into operation in control area 1 during the summer holidays. Thanks to modern CT technology, our passengers no longer have to remove electronic devices and liquid containers of up to 100 ml from their hand baggage at the lanes equipped in this way. This simplifies the checks and reduces potential waiting times," says Aletta von Massenbach, Chief Executive Officer of Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH.
The airport company generally recommends that all holiday travellers arrive at the correct terminal in good time before departure and follow the instructions of the respective airline. Those who find out about the procedures at the airport in advance on the BER website or in the BER app, book parking spaces online and check in online in advance can start their holiday in a more relaxed manner. Dropping off your baggage at the Fast Bag Drop also saves valuable time. Travellers can reach their departure gate via any security checkpoint in Terminal 1 or Terminal 2. The boarding gate usually closes 30 minutes before departure.
From seven days before departure, passengers can book a time slot for access to the security control in Terminal 1 free of charge.
Travellers can also use contactless services such as BER Runway or access to the central border control.
The airport company recommends checking the current traffic situation for the day of arrival. Due to construction work, there will be restrictions on the S-Bahn Berlin from 24 July to 4 August. While the S45 line between BER Airport and Südkreuz is expected to run every 10 minutes, the S9 line will not run to BER Airport during this period.

Due to the high demand during the holiday season, it is advisable to reserve a car parking space online in advance.
It is now possible to book a long-distance ticket for travelling to your flight directly on the airport website or in the BER app.
If desired, travellers can conveniently leave their car on the terminal driveway, directly in front of the check-in hall. The vehicle is parked, cleaned on request and is ready again on arrival at BER.
It is important to observe the safety regulations for the controls when packing! Powerbanks and e-cigarettes are prohibited in checked baggage. These may only be carried in hand baggage in compliance with the respective quantity specifications and transport regulations.
The EU-wide regulation continues to apply: only liquid containers that do not exceed 100 ml each and 1 litre in total are permitted. However, liquids no longer have to be unpacked at security checkpoints with CT scanners.

Passengers travelling with hand baggage only can go directly to the security checkpoint. A total of more than 120 self-check-in machines are available in the BER terminals, where travellers can print out their baggage label and then check in their baggage themselves. 19 airlines now offer this service at BER.

Passengers who have a biometric passport or new German ID card can use the EasyPass automatic passport control and thus pass through border control more quickly when travelling to a non-EU country. This also applies to third-country nationals aged 12 and above who hold an electronic passport and German residence permit. This is not possible with children’s passports.

At BER, travellers can expect numerous shops and catering facilities in both the public and security areas. New additions this summer in the security area of Terminal 1 are the sushi concept Friendly Fish and the Laggner Pizzatorio La Pizzaiola. REWE and Kamps are open round the clock in the public area of Terminal 1.
Travellers can benefit from discounts and special offers that can be redeemed via coupons in the BER app at participating shops, restaurants and service partners. Simply download the BER app, select the appropriate coupon and redeem it directly on site.

Every minute counts when an aircraft is turning around – smooth interaction between all partners, such as ground handling, cleaning, refuelling and catering, is essential to ensure a safe and efficient process. The airline, in this case Eurowings, manages the processes relating to the aircraft and ensures precise coordination between all service providers, while BER is responsible for the efficiency of the infrastructure.
