The airport company has successfully completed the selection process for the new training year. At the end of February, the last training and study places were allocated for the start of training on 1 September 2026. The high attractiveness of the airport as a training company is demonstrated by both the quantity and quality of the applications. More than 1,000 applications were received for the more than 30 training places, and the content of these applications was so impressive that the selection process has already been successfully completed. For 2026, the airport company has offered training places in a total of 16 apprenticeship occupations as well as dual study programmes in the fields of technology, IT, airport operations and administration.
“We are delighted that we were once again able to fill all training positions at the airport company very early on this year. This is also proof of the attractiveness of jobs at the airport and our investment in the quality of training. Our commitment to training young people in the region is and remains an important part of our company,” comments Aletta von Massenbach, Chief Executive Officer of Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH.
The airport continuously invests in the quality of its training programmes. Currently, there are around 120 trainees and dual students in various years on board.
Right at the start of their training, all new trainees and dual students receive a one-week onboarding programme that eases the transition from school to working life. In addition to a general introduction to the company, it includes an exchange with all other junior staff, an airport tour, first aid training and safety awareness training. This ensures that new colleagues are integrated both professionally and culturally right from the start. Targeted specialist training is also offered to commercial and technical trainees, for example to further strengthen their digital skills. Technical trainees also benefit from an e-learning platform that supports their technical training and enables individual learning.
However, the supervisory staff for trainees and dual students also represent an important quality factor in training for FBB. An internal trainer training programme (AEVO) and a series of in-house training courses have been set up to ensure quality assurance and continuous development. A total of around 80 trainers and training officers receive this qualification programme to ensure consistently high training quality and continuous development.
"High-quality training tailored to the individual is a central component of our sustainable human resources strategy. This not only enables us to attract committed young talent but also allows us to specifically develop the specialists and managers for tomorrow's airport operations. We are proud that we were able to fill all our training positions so early on, as it shows that we are also perceived by the public as an attractive training company," says Juliane Reffert, Head of Human Resources & Organisation at the airport.
The airport sees itself as a gateway to the world – and as a place where diversity, respect and responsibility are lived out. In their first year of training, for example, all junior staff visit the House of the Wannsee Conference together. Social engagement is also an integral part of the training programme. Trainees and dual students volunteer for charitable causes, such as social projects in the region.
The recruitment of skilled workers is deliberately focused on the Berlin-Brandenburg region. The airport environment in particular is an important target group. School sponsorships create close links between schools and training. The aim is to highlight career prospects at an early stage and to provide pupils with practical support.
Alongside training that is geared towards the operational needs of the future, the airport company offers secure employment prospects for those with the right personal and professional aptitude.
There is no standing still: training is continuously being developed. One example is the plant fire brigade training programme, which was brought to Brandenburg on the airport's initiative and successfully established in 2022. The company is thus setting new standards in regional skilled worker development.
A special highlight in the training calendar is the in-house training event BERzubi, which will take place on 10 October 2026 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. directly at BER. Here, those interested in starting training in 2027 will have the opportunity to get in direct contact with all training departments and experience ‘hands-on training’. The event offers practical insights, personal discussions and the chance to get to know the airport as an employer first-hand.
