Map: Air quality measurement stations

Since the summer of 2011, the airport company (FBB) has been monitoring the air quality at BER in accordance with the requirements of the planning approval decision and operates two of its own measuring points in that regard. One of these is located directly on the airport site at the eastern end of the northern runway and, therefore, in the immediate vicinity of the aircraft taking off and landing, while the other is located about 2 kilometres east of BER in Bohnsdorf (BDF) to examine the influence of BER on the surrounding area. FBB also utilises the measured values from a third measuring station in Blankenfelde-Mahlow (BFM) to the west of BER, which is operated by the Brandenburg State Office for the Environment (LfU). The location of the measuring stations takes into account the prevailing main wind directions from the west and east and, therefore, enables measurements to be taken downwind and upwind of BER.

Limiting values are safely complied with

Limiting values for air pollutants must be complied with within certain periods. These limiting values are based on the guideline values of the World Health Organisation (WHO), which were defined in accordance with the latest scientific findings on the effects of air pollutants on human health and the environment. Since the start of the measurements in 2011, the results have been clear. The statutory limiting values for various pollutants that are typical in air traffic have been complied with or the figures in that regard have been significantly below the limiting values at all times at BER and in the airport environs. Comparisons with measurements in Potsdam city centre also show that the air quality there is comparable.
