Airport traffic in October 80 percent less than last year
Europe-wide lockdowns intensify decline

Passenger numbers at Schönefeld Airport (until 24.10.) / BER (since 25.10.) and Tegel continued to decline in October 2020. Last month, a total of 581,322 passengers flew from the two airports. Compared to September, passenger numbers fell by a further 16.2 percent. One of the reasons for the decrease is the further increase of infection rates across Europe and the resulting lockdowns, which further restrict travel. In total, the SXF / BER handled 181,692 passengers; Tegel handled 399,630 passengers. In comparison to the same month last year that is a decrease of almost 82 percent at both sites.

At both airports 9,011 flights were registered, 3,428 handled by Schönefeld and 5,583 by Tegel. That is a decrease of 64.8 percent from last year.

A total of 8,619,913 passengers were carried between January and October, 2,782,139 by Schönefeld and 5,837,774 by Tegel. This means that the volume of passengers up to and including October was only 28.3 percent in comparison to this period last year.

Engelbert Lütke Daldrup, Chief Executive Officer of Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH: „The extremely difficult situation for our company continues to worsen. With massive travel restrictions and the extensive lockdowns in many countries, it is increasingly more difficult to travel by air. Airports and airlines are in a crisis without an end in sight. The fact that the capital city region with BER now has the best conditions to optimally support the economic recovery after the pandemic is currently of little consolation. Like all airports in Germany, we are dependent on the support of shareholders to survive the crisis.

The October traffic report with the final figures will be available online at the end of the month:
