Night flight
regulation at BER

Since October 2011, the night flight regulations for Berlin Brandenburg Airport have been confirmed by the Federal Administrative Court. This means that there is a balanced, citizen-friendly regulation for the economically important flights in the off-peak hours. The airport company considers it expedient to further reduce noise pollution (e.g. through intelligent runway utilisation concepts, the use of quiet aircraft, and modern approach procedures). However, the airport company considers any attempts to replace the existing compromise on flight times with more restrictive regulations to be completely misguided.

Restrictions upon Night Flights

At BER, no regular flights are allowed from midnight to 5:00 a.m. Only emergency, postal, government, and police flights are permitted during these hours. For unavoidable delays or early arrivals, there is a corridor of half an hour before and after the nightly core time.

Background

In Germany, air transport is not as widely accepted as it should be considering its economic importance and its environmental balance. One example is the recurrent demand to further restrict flight times at BER.

With the decision of the Federal Administrative Court from October 2011, there is a confirmed and citizen-friendly regulation for flights in the off-peak hours. There is no need for additional regulation, and it contradicts the current legal situation.

We have compiled for you here background information on the broad public, parliamentary, licensing, and legal discussion of recent years as well as on the importance of flights at night and during off-peak hours.
